George Buck’s GHB Broadcasting has agreed to sell Sports 690 WIST New Orleans and its FM translator 104.9 K285FF Metairie to Catholic Community Radio.
The sale price was not disclosed in the FCC application. Catholic Community Radio currently owns and operates 1380 WPYR Baton Rouge.
WIST currently programs a mix of local sports talk and programming from Yahoo! Sports Radio. Buck will continue as President and 60% owner of Oldies 94.3 WTIX-FM in the New Orleans market.
Another nail in radio’s coffin. I speak from the experience of a suburban radio station where I worked which was local-live before radio stations felt the need to say “local-live.” It had local hosts, local news, local ballgames and lots of local advertisers. It also sent people on to the big time. Now it’s a repeater for EWTN and except for the transmitter has no local presence at all. Where radio was relevant to the community, now it’s not. Where radio had buzz, now it doesn’t. I can’t see how anybody makes any money but maybe some rich guys think this going to get them into heaven.
darn, there goes my lunch hour. The sports hangover was great!!
