Cumulus’ 94.7 WLS-FM Chicago is preparing some adjustments to go into effect on Monday, October 1.
Along with new branding of “Chicago’s Classic Hits”, the stations is bringing back two market stalwarts and moving another to a new daypart. WMAQ-TV Chief Meteorologist Brant Miller rejoins the station for his third tour of duty at the station as he joins incumbent Marti Jones in mornings replacing Dave Fogel, who was let go yesterday. Miller had filled the morning slot on the station from 2008 until early 2010 and was most recently heard on Merlin’s “FM News 101.1” WIQI.
Greg Brown shifts from afternoons to middays where he replaces the voicetracked out of New York Scott Shannon. Brown’s move paves the way for the return of Fred Winston in the 2:30 to 6:30 slot. Winston recently rejoined the station for weekend and fill-in shifts. John Records Landecker remains in nights from 6:30pm to 11:00 and Dick Biondi in late nights from 11pm to 2am.
Gotta avoid the O-word at all costs.
just call it what it is, Chicago’s best oldies. A lot of people will confuse classic hits with WDRV or K-Hits.
They haven’t used the term “Oldies” in years, except on Saturday Mornings when they still run the True Oldies Channel satellite from about 6AM-10AM. They’ve used “Chicago’s Classic Hits & True Oldies”, simply “94-7 WLS”, and “The Greatest Hits” which is what they were doing most recently. I don’t know if the change to “Classic Hits” from “Greatest Hits” has anything to do with 104.3’s “Greatest Hits Of The 60s-70s-80s” but it might. But it doesn’t sound good for anybody who likes anything recorded prior to 1969.
