On the heels of their launch of Talk “107.3 K-News” KNEZ, Shamrock Communications has formally announced its second station in Reno will launch as Alternative 104.1 KRZQ.
The previous incarnation of KRZQ carried the Alternative format over two frequencies from 1992 until September 2011 when Wilks Broadcasting flipped it to Adult CHR “Mix 100.9“.
The official announcement as sent out to listeners and advertisers including information on the airstaff follows:
Just over a year ago, the former owners of KRZQ gave up on almost 20 years of history when they dropped the stations for a “Hot AC” format. The public outcry for the station was astounding and did not fall on deaf ears. When we opened MyRenoRadio for your input on what formats these stations should be, the response was overwhelming for an Alternative KRZQ.
We are proud to announce KRZQ is back! In the next few days, KRZQ will be live on a new frequency: 104.1! KRZQ will be better than ever! Many of you expressed an interest in the “old KRZQ”; Rest assured, the KRZQ you will hear will be different, it will be Alternative, but it will still be everything you loved and more; it will be awesome!
For those of you missing his wonderful beard, yes, Chris Payne will be returning to afternoons on the new 104.1 KRZQ. Another KRZQ alum, Smilin’ Marty will be bringing his Morning Party back to Reno as well.
Tuesday night (November 13th) KRZQ celebrates its resurrection at the Knitting Factory with Grammy-nominated Everclear! We hope you can join us.Want to go for free? Be the first to get the new KRZQ swag – T-shirts, stickers, key chains and tickets to the resurrection party – by coming to Punch Drunk Punk this Saturday, at the Reno Events Center. Punch Drunk Punk includes Dropkick Murphys, Pennywise, NOFX, and Alkaline Trio – a show you don’t want to miss!
The new KRZQ website is www.KRZQRadio.com and will be live in the next few weeks as will the 104.1 KRZQ mobile apps. KRZQ’s Facebook and Twitter are live now, so like and follow us at www.Facebook.com/KRZQRadio and @KRZQRadio. KRZQ isn’t on-air yet, but will be in the next few days and we will let you know there when that happens!
Shamrock Communications still has two additional frequencies in Reno that will debut in the coming weeks: 105.3 KZTI and 106.3 KWNZ.
