Common Frequency Inc.’s 97.9 KRRC Portland, which has been silent for much of the past year since the group acquired the station from Reed College, has found a new frequency to return to the air.
The low powered Class D, which was to be displaced by the imminent move of Cumulus’ KNRQ from the Eugene market into Portland, has applied for a move to 91.1. On its new frequency the station will operate with 60 watts at -25.8 meters above average terrain. Reed College shut down operations of the station in November 2011, and after first planning to turn in the license of the station to the FCC later donated it to Common Frequency.
When the station returns to the air, it will be a new locally focused Indie Rocker led by former Portland Mercury editor Phil Busse. Busse, the Executive Director of the Northwest Institue for Social Change, recently ran an IndieGogo campaign to fund the acquisition of the first round of equipment for the station. Busse registered PortlandRadio911.com for the station in November.

This is awesome. Common Frequency should be applauded.
