Update 5/9: Woof Boom Radio will pay $4.45 Million for the Backyard Broadcasting stations in Muncie.
Original Report 5/7: A day after selling their Upstate New York stations to Community Broadcasters, Backyard Broadcasting has sold their Munice, IN cluster to Woof Boom Radio.
Woof Boom is headed by former Emmis executive Jerry “J.” Chapman. He most recently was Market Manager of Maverick Media’s just sold Rockford, IL stations. Other partners in the company are Ray Kennedy of Conormara Investments, Jason Farmer of Westbridge Investments, and Aaron Reitz.
The stations involved in the sale are “Talk Radio 1240” WHBU Anderson, “Fox Sports 1340/102.9” WXFN Muncie/W275AJ Muncie, Classic Rock simulcast “Max 93.5 & 96.7” WMXQ Hartford City/WMQX Alexandria, Adult CHR 104.1 WLBC Muncie, and Oldies 104.9 WERK Muncie.
Woof Boom Radio will begin operating the stations via LMA on June 1.
After the sale of their Elmira-Corning and Olean, NY stations this week and Sioux Falls, SD last year, the only market Backyard currently is retaining is Williamsport, PA.
One of the Williamsport cluster stations is actually licensed to Muncy, PA. So Muncie goes but Muncy stays.
