FCC Update 7/16

FCC Update Translator Construction Permit ApplicationsCumulus’ 97.9 KNRQ-FM Eugene, OR has filed a request for expedited approval to shift its pending move into Aloha in the Portland market to a new tower site. Claiming that it needs to be built before August 1 in order to close on its swap with EMF Broadcasting of 97.5 KYGA (was KRUZ-FM) Goleta CA and 103.7 KXPC-FM Harrisburg OR before the California license renewal deadline.

If approved, KNRQ will now be built as a C1 with 9.7kW at 472 meters from the KGW-TV owned tower (instead of 50kw at 387 meters from a different location). Cumulus states it can build the new facility quickly, but if the new application is not approved before the August 1 deadline it will delay construction until at least December.

Bible Broadcasting has applied to move 103.3 W277AM Biddeford, ME north into the original Portland. The 13 watt translator would upgrade to 99 watts from the tower of Saga’s 100.9 WYNZ. The application states the translator would be used to rebroadcast Saga’s Talk 1490 WBAE.

NextMedia’s “FM Talk & Sports 100.5” WSGW-FM Carrollton/Saginaw, MI has applied to make its auxiliary facility its primary one. The move will see the station downgrade from 6kW at 100 meters to 3kW at 100 meters.

Family Radio continues to sell off assets. EMF Broadcasting has purchased two more translators from Harold Camping’s Family Stations as it acquires 101.7 W269AS Carlisle/Harrisburg PA and the CP for 105.9 K290BZ Kneeland/Eureka CA for $50,000.

Triad Family Network has sold a translator CP, 104.5 W283BT Burlington NC to Curtis Media’s Eastern Airwaves for $100,000. The station will be used to give Sports 1200 WSML Graham an FM signal.

Way Media has sold 92.9 W225AH Huntsville AL to FRC Of Alabama for $55,281. The 30 watt translator is already in use rebroadcasting FRC’s News/Talk 1450 WTKI and will continue to do so.
