Update 8/1: 102.1 WXTG-FM flipped to a simulcast of 92.3 WTYD at 4pm this afternoon.
Despite originally stating that 1490 WXTG will also join the Tide simulcast, the station will retain its “Game” Sports format without its local programming. The station carries Fox Sports Radio’s Dan Patrick, CBS Sports Radio’s Jim Rome, and NBC Sports Radio programming.
Original Report 7/30: Local Voice Media (formerly known as Davis Media) has agreed to acquire Sports “102.1 The Game” 1490 WXTG Hampton and 102.1 WXTG-FM Virginia Beach from Red Zebra Broadcasting.
The pair will flip to AAA in the next couple days simulcasting LVM’s “92.3 The Tide” WTYD Deltaville/Williamsburg. The move will return the AAA format to the Norfolk/Virginia Beach market for the first time since 2003. The sale will be filed with the FCC on July 31 and a LMA will commence shortly thereafter.
1490 WXTG/102.1 WXTG-FM will continue to carry Washington Nationals and Redskins play-by-play through the current seasons. Red Zebra, owned by Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, continues to own Sports formatted stations in Washington and Richmond.
