Pittsburgh Public Media launched Jazz 88.1 WYZR Bethany, WV on Saturday, August 31 at 1:15pm.
The station, which technically serves the Wheeling WV/Steubenville OH market, will rimshot the southern and western suburbs of Pittsburgh. The station’s purpose is to restore Jazz programming to the market following the sale of 90.5 WDUQ, which was sold and flipped to NPR News/Talk in July 2011 as WESA.
Pittsburgh Public Media acquired what was then 88.1 WVBC from Bethany College in March for $110,000. The new WYZR is launching with programming from PGHJazzChannel.net, which features programming from former WDUQ staffers and is co-owned with the station.
