Update 12/5: Sandy McIlree is following JB Hager in departing KAMX. The remainder of their morning team, Sara Osburn who also hosts afternoons and Alex Franco who also hosts nights will remain with the station.
Entercom has sent out the following release regarding their departure:
Entercom Austin today announced effective immediately that JB and Sandy Mcllree would no longer host morning drive on Austin’s Mix 94.7 and that a new morning show host had been hired. Vice-President of Programming Cat Thomas said, “We are excited about the future of Mix in 2014, and we will be naming our new host shortly. We are pleased to announce we will be retaining Alex and Sara, and we will continue playing Austin’s best music mix.”
Thomas added, “JB and Sandy have been part of Mix for 18 years, which is a lifetime in radio. JB and Sandy made an indelible impact on our station, their audience and the city of Austin. But unfortunately the declining performance of the show, and the expense of the show no longer made economic sense, and we were unable to come to terms. We thank them for their work and wish them the best in the future.”
Original Report 12/3: Following last week’s exit of morning co-host JB Hager from Entercom Hot AC “Mix 94.7” KAMX Austin, Hager and longtime partner Sandy McIlree could be on the move to a new station in the market.
The Austin Business Journal reports that “a deal for a new show could be announced very soon.” Both Hager and McIlree are under contract with Entercom until the end of the year. Hager exited after finishing promotional obligations for the station, while McIlree is still on the air while negotiating with KAMX and other stations.
JB & Sandy had hosted mornings at KAMX since the station’s launch in 1995. Outside of a few months when the program originated in Dallas and was syndicated back to Austin, the duo has been based at KAMX.
Spotted: @jbhager and @SandyMcIlree meeting over dinner with a local radio bigwig. Hmmmmmm …
