At 9:31am, Cumulus flipped Variety Hits “93.1 Doug-FM” WDRQ Detroit to Country “Nash-FM 93.1“.
Currently playing non-stop Country Christmas music, the long rumored move gives direct format competition to CBS’ 99.5 WYCD. The station will play Christmas music through the holidays before launching its Country format.
WDRQ ranked 18th in the Detroit market with a 2.5 share in the November Nielsen PPM ratings. WYCD led the Detroit market with a 7.9 share.
Hey Lance! Forgive me for slightly deviating from topic, but do you think a nash affiliate will actually ever launch in its “tribute city” of Nashville? or do you think to share holders and clients, it dilutes the importance of the NYC flagship!
Cumulus has publicly stated that the Nash brand will be expanded to all of their Country stations. Whether it’s WKDF or WSM-FM that takes the brand I have no idea.
