Update 2/10: JVC flipped 104.9 WYGC High Springs/Gainesville to Classic Hits “104.9 Wow-FM” today.
Focusing on music from the 60s through 80s, the station fills a void in the market that has existed since sister 92.9 WMFQ Ocala flipped from Classic Hits to Hot AC in 2011.
The “MyCountry” format remains on 102.3 WTRS.
Original Report 2/6: A breakup of Country simulcast “My Country 102.3/104.9” WTRS Dunnellon/WYGC High Springs, FL is on the horizon.
Earlier in the week we noticed that the station had dropped references to the 104.9 frequency as it changed its web domain from MyCountryFLA.com to 1023MyCountry.com. On Tuesday JVC co-owner Vic Canales registered 1049Wow.com, 1049WowFM.com, Wow1049.com, and Wow1049FM.com for the northern half of the simulcast. Word on the street is a Classic Hits format will accompany the Wow-FM branding.
WTRS/WYGC run a male skewing Country format with Bubba The Love Sponge in mornings. In the Fall 2013 ratings the stations registered a 3.9 share in the market, which tied it with University of Florida’s “103.7 The Gator” WRUF-FM. A third Country station in the market, Dix Communications’ “K-Country 93.7” WOGK did not appear in the ratings as a non-Nielsen subscriber.
102.3 and 104.9 began simulcasting on June 1, 2013 as JVC began operating of its Gainesville/Ocala cluster. WTRS had been running a Country format branded as “Thunder 102.3“, while WYGC was Sports “105 The Game“.
Is this JVC, as in, the company that made my VCR?
