Update 3/3: WJXN ended its weekend of stunting at 12pm today with a flip to Classic Country “100.9 The Legend“.
The new format allows New South to pair WJXN as a sales combo with sister Country “US 96.3” WUSJ as well as flank it against Clear Channel’s “Miss 103” WMSI.
Update 3/2: Sunday’s looping song is Johnny & June Carter Cash’s “Jackson”. WJXN has begun hyping that it will debut its new format on Monday at 12:00pm.
Update 3/1 2:00pm: The stunting has now replaced Disco Duck with Daddy Dewdrop’s “Chick-A-Boom (Don’t Ya Jes’ Love It)”
Original Report 3/1 11:00am: New South Radio Variety Hits “100.9 Jack-FM” WJXN-FM Utica/Jackson, MS is stunting with a loop of Rick Dees’ “Disco Duck”. Each rotation of the song is preceded by a Wolfman Jack style DJ taking requests for songs and playing the Dees song no-matter what each person requests.
WJXN, which is owned by Flinn Broadcasting and operated by New South under an LMA, registered a mere 0.6 share in the Fall 2013 Nielsen ratings down from a 1.9 in the summer.
What they need to install is a new rock format. But knowing them, it will probably be another lame format as always.
at least play “Jackson,Mississippi” by kid rock before they flip it imo
Not another country station!!!! They already have two of them in the market. I guess Jackson always going to be boring market
Good thing there internet radio and satellite radio to listen to
I don’t get it. There’s a massive hole for rock here.
But is there enough of a market to sell Rock? New South obviously feels they can make more money with Classic Country as an add on buy with WUSJ, with the goal of dropping WMSI behind US 96.3 in their key demos.
