Apple’s ITunes Radio has made its first foray into spoken word programming with an NPR channel.
Re/Code reports that the first stream, which has gone live today, will feature “live news with segments from pre-recorded shows like All Things Considered and The Diane Rehm Show”. Additional streams featuring content from local affiliates will follow over the next few weeks.
NPR Vice President of Digital Media Zach Brand sums up the need to expand NPR’s distribution perfectly. “The public radio audience is very digital savvy, but there are certainly some of the millennials and other folks who are looking for their listening experience exclusively on digital, so we want to reach them wherever they are.”
