Sunrise Broadcasting has assumed operations of 95.9 W240AS Wilmington, NC.
Upon replacing Hometown Wilmington Media has the lessee of the translator, Sunrise has flipped it to Sports simulcasting “ESPN 630” WMFD. The 250 watt translator is owned by Sea-Comm Media.
The move explains why Hometown Wilmington flipped 103.7 WBNE from Classic Rock to being the FM side of the News “Port City Radio” simulcast with 1180 WLTT last month. W240AS had served that purpose previously.
Tom davis is a very intelligent man and my favorite Tripple A programmer, and though I don’t entirely agree with the way everything is implemented, it’s a different company strategy that at least responsibly considers future multi media. The bone was an awesome station though, but in this rare exception, i can truly see the business in this. What should also be mentioned here is that Port City radio, is an anchor station for their online newspaper, and for the company is the first of its kind. In fact, I think cumulus columbia will end up ousting the dude in columbia from that format, and lead to cola radio eventually which would be more appropriate, since I always saw the 94.3 format as a place holder. Wilmington proved me wrong, but Columbia is a different situation better discussed in other posts. good luck to the fm simulcast I suppose, I’m not a sports guy, and much continued success to local voice media.
