Since Salem acquired Classic Hits “103.3 Earth-FM” WOLT Greer, SC many have asked us whether the station will flip to one of Salem’s core Christian formats to flank sister “Conservative Talk 94.5” WGTK-FM.
If that is still an eventual plan, Salem is doing a pretty good of masking it. As of April 24, WOLT has changed call letters to WRTH to match the Earth branding. That follows the registrations of EarthFMWRTH.com and WRTHFM.com.
WRTH will be one of only four Salem owned stations to not run one of the companies core formats (Christian, Conservative Talk, Business Talk) and its second Classic Hits station along with “107.9 Kool Gold” KKOL-FM Honolulu.
Unless they plan on calling the Conservative format “Earth FM” (I doubt it)
They might go syndicated/satellite though. KKOL is mostly off the Westwood One/Dial Global Classic Hits/Kool Gold network.
Salem has run stations with non-core formats in the past.
They owned all-sports WKNR/Cleveland from 2000 until 2007, and did maintain studios separate from the Salem Cleveland cluster (although the format was arguably run on the cheap, with a heavy reliance on syndicated fare and paid programming).
