Curtis Media has flipped 102.3 WFNL-FM (formerly WWPL) Smithfield/Raleigh, NC to “Bluegrass 102.3“.
The launch of the station coincides with the start of the International Bluegrass Music Association convention in Raleigh this coming Monday and the Wide Open Bluegrass festival next weekend. Curtis Media Group Executive Vice President, Trip Savery stated in the press release, “Our commitment to Bluegrass started when WPTF hired Flatt & Scruggs in 1952. We are very proud to bring a part of our heritage back to the airwaves.”
Earlier this month 102.3 WWPL moved its “Pulse” CHR format and call letters to sister 96.9 WBZJ Goldsboro.
INSTANT INSIGHT: Everything about this screams stunt or placeholder format. There is a pending sale of WFNL-FM to Triangle Marketing Associates awaiting FCC approval.
