Yankton, SD based Riverfront Broadcasting is expanding into Iowa with the purchase of six stations and a translator from NRG Media.
Included in the sale are Country 1600 KLGZ/98.5 K253BJ and 92.7 KLGA-FM Algona, News/Talk 1590 KWBG Boone, AC “97.7 The Bolt” KHBT Humboldt, AC “Q95.7” KQWC-FM and Oldies “The Kruise 1570” KQWC Webster City. Riverfront currently operates stations in Pierre, Mitchell, and Yankton, SD and Nebraska City, NE.
NRG is in the process of acquiring Woodward Communication’s stations in Waterloo, IA and will still own seven stations in Illinois, sixteen in Nebraska, and thirteen in Wisconsin.
NRG Media LLC announced today the sale of its Northwestern Iowa radio properties in Algona, Humboldt, Webster City, and Boone to Riverfront Broadcasting, LLC. The seven radio properties include KLGA-FM and KLGZ-AM and FM in Algona; KWBG-AM in Boone; KHBT-FM in Humboldt; and KQWC-AM and FM in Webster City.
NRG Media Chief Executive Officer Mary Quass said the new owners are a perfect match for the Northwestern Iowa stations. “It has been great working with the radio teams in all four markets. They have been an integral part of our company for years and a significant contributor to our company’s growth.” Quass added: “At the same time, I am equally excited for the stations. Riverfront Broadcasting shares the same culture and I am confident they have a robust broadcasting future ahead.”
Riverfront Broadcasting LLC is based in Yankton, South Dakota and currently owns stations in Pierre, Mitchell, and Yankton South Dakota. Owned by Carolyn and Doyle Becker, Riverfront Broadcasting LLC launched in 2004 with properties in Nebraska City, Nebraska and has grown to include 7 markets and 15 stations including many properties purchased from NRG Media when it was in partnership with Waitt Media.
