Alpha Media has launched Alternative “103.3 The App” K277CX Terrell Wells/94.1 KTFM-HD2 Floresville, TX.
Launching with 10000 songs commercial-free, the move brings the Alternative format to San Antonio for the first time ever. The market has had gold leaning AAA’s and multiple Rock stations including Cox’ heritage 99.5 KISS, but never one reporting as Alternative.
As expected with a station named “The App“, Alpha is pushing the mobile apps for the station heavily. Pat Cerullo, Program Director of Rhythmic CHR 94.1 KTFM and Variety Hits “102.7 Jack-FM” KJXK adds programming duties for The App.
The first hour of “103.3 The App” consisted of:
Hozier – Take Me To Church
Lorde – Team
Fall Out Boy – Sugar We’re Going Down
Vance Joy – Riptide
Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit
Imagine Dragons – Radioactive
Banks – Beggin For Thread
Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks
Big Data f/ Joywave – Dangerous
Nirvana – Come As You Are
Alex Clare – Too Close
Bastille – Pompeii
Neon Trees – Everybody Talks
Capital Cities – Safe & Sound

Beastie Boys – Intergalactic
Royal Blood – Figure It Out
Alpha Media San Antonio, TX announced today the launch of San Antonio’s Alternative Station, 103.3 The App which will target millennials ages 18-44.
“San Antonio is ground zero for the first station using our national service mark; The App. Alpha Media continues to innovate by launching the first app with a radio station attached to it. Many stations have an app, but only one app has a radio station attached to it,” remarked Scott Mahalick, Alpha Media Executive VP of Programming.
Alpha Media VP of Programming, Phil Becker commented, “With 103.3 The App, the broadcast paradigm has changed. True convergence has arrived, so much so that it’s our name. Wish you had an original station name? Now there’s an App for that.”
Greg Martin, Director of Operations, added, “103.3 The App most certainly fills a void in the San Antonio market. This is a very exciting new sound unlike any heard in this market in many years”.
“I’m thrilled to be programming San Antonio’s exclusive home for alternative music, 103.3 The App! So many hit records have been absent from this market over the past few years, but now that is finally going to change. We’ve positioned the station as the first app with a terrestrial FM signal, since prior to our launch, listeners had to seek out this format via other mediums. This is just one example of the forward thinking and creativity that listeners can expect from Alpha Media in 2015,” said Program Director, Pat Cerullo.
Download the App now from the Google Play or the App Store now. Just search “103.3 The App.”
cool concept.. but the name sounds kinda… well.. like it’s trying too hard? I do like the idea of an app with a radio station attached, though.
I agree about the name. LOL it’s pretty dumb. They should create a unique name.
The ironic thing is that the 103.3 FM translator has been off the air ever since a couple hours after it’s launch… So much for a new alternative station in San Antonio. I suppose they’re having big problems or it would be back by now…
