CBS Radio has named Ken Charles the new Program Director of News 1070 KNX Los Angeles.
Charles spent the past two decades at iHeartMedia most recently serving as National Brand Manager of News/Talk/Sports and Vice President of Programming of their Sacramento cluster until exiting the company in January. He also served as Regional VP/Programming based in Houston and Director of AM Programming in Miami.
Charles fills the opening created by the dismissal of Andy Ludlum last September.
Ken Charles has been named program director for KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO effective July 6. Most recently he was the vice president of programming for iHeart Media’s Sacramento cluster, as well as the national brand manager for all of the news, talk and sports stations. Charles spent nearly 17 years heading up news and talk programming for iHeartMedia in several major markets including Atlanta, Houston and Miami.
“You’d be hard-pressed to find a programmer with as much experience and success in the news format as Ken,” said Dan Kearney, SVP/MM, CBS RADIO Los Angeles. “He is one of the most respected managers of news operations in the country and during this seminal, fast-changing period of how people get their news, he is uniquely qualified to build upon KNX’s reputation as Southern California’s news, traffic and information authority.”
“I can’t wait to begin working for CBS RADIO, a company committed to local news, and the team of award-winning professionals at KNX, L.A.’s heritage home for local news and traffic,” said Charles. “I’m thankful to Chris Oliviero, Scott Herman, Dan Kearney and Kevin Weatherly for giving me this incredible opportunity.”
