Radio Disney continues its sell-off with the divestment of two more stations to Salem Media.
Salem’s Pennsylvania Media Associates will acquire 1260 WMKI Boston for $500,000, while Inspiration Media of Texas adds 620 KMKI Plano/Dallas for $3 million.
WMKI will becomes Salem’s fourth property in the Boston market joining Christian Preaching “590 The Word” WEZE, “Spirit of Boston” 950 WROL, and Spanish Christian “Radio Luz 1150” WWDJ. The acquisition will lead to questions of whether Salem will bring a Conservative Talk “Answer” to Rush Limbaugh’s need for a new Boston affiliate.
KMKI will be Salem’s sixth property in the Dallas market. The company owns Christian AC 94.9 KLTY, Christian Preaching “100.7 the Word” KWRD, Conservative Talk “660 The Answer” KSKY and Spanish Christian “Radio Luz 1440” KTNO. Salem also operates First Ventures Capital Partners’ Business Talk 1160 KVCE under a Time Brokerage Agreement through at least the end of this year.
Salem sold 1260 to Hibernia which eventually got bought out by Radio Disney. I don’t remember how much did Hibernia pay Salem for 1260?
Also I’ve lost track. Besides Philly, how many Radio Disney stations are left?
KMIK 15~Eighty in Phoenix (Tempe) remains on the sidelines. It’s the Valley’s only 50kw day and night station (if that matters at all). Non-D days, 6 sticks at night. Nurse Jeff and I doubt Salem wants it as they’ve got 3 Ancient Modulation stations here. It sits on a nice parcel of land, which may be the highest and best use for the station.
According to Wikipedia, Radio Disney stations are still up for sale in Phoenix, San Francisco, Sacramento, Denver, Tampa, Chicago, Minneapolis,, St. Louis, Portland and Philadelphia.
Would they do conservative talk? Maybe, though they didn’t do well with 1150. They did just launch an
“Answer” station in Pittsburgh with their usual talkers plus local to them Rose Tennant. Rush etc were shuffled off to WJAS when iHeart changed 104.7 to country.
Would they run Rush? He costs a lot of money…
I wonder when they will find a buyer for 1260 WSDZ in St. Louis? I don’t see too many beating the door down for it. I had heard rumors that Radio One wanted an AM for a Black oriented talk station to carry Al Sharpton; but I don’t see any other buyers likely to come out of the woodwork. Salem has no presence here, Crawford sold out of the market, there are two AM sticks and soon an FM translator running Catholic programming, a couple of AM stations running sports, a couple running Spanish language for the relatively small Hispanic population here; I can’t see many takers lining up, and 590 KFNS has been dark at least six months now with no takers for it either. Too many AM stations here and too few people who actually listen to AM outside of Cardinals baseball on KMOX.
