The names of the people who have been cut from CBS Radio in the past week continue to make their way out.
Sports 560 WQAM Miami has dropped Adam Kuperstein and former Miami Dolphin Channing Crowder from their 1-3pm show. Orlando “Big O” Alzugaray adds an additional hour to run 10am-2pm, Marc Hochman with Zach Krantz slides up an hour to run 2-6pm, while Alex Donno will host 6-10pm.
PBRTV.com reports on some names let go in Pittsburgh. Morning co-host Jimmy Roach is out at Country “Y108” 107.9 WDSY. Hot AC “100.7 Star” WBZZ loses veteran midday host Scott Alexander and night host Lindsay.
Update 7/15: More names from the CBS cuts:
In Los Angeles, Freddy Snakeskin is out as PD/on-air at “ROQ Of The 80’s” KROQ-HD2 and “Jack Of All Trades” at “93.1 Jack-FM” KCBS-FM. Snakeskin worked at KROQ from 1980-1990 and has been with the CBS cluster since 2006. He wrote a long farewell entry on the KROQ-HD2 Facebook page.
Night jock Bob Charger exits Classic Hits 98.1 WOGL Philadelphia after 19 years. Charger is a longtime Philly radio vet with time at Top 40’s 560 WFIL and 990 WIBG.
The Detroit News reports that the on-air staff at News 950 WWJ was gutted. Overnight anchor Rob Sanford and his producer Gary Lundy were let go on Monday, while afternoon co-anchors Jayne Bower and Greg Bowman and evening anchor Paul Snider are taking voluntary buyouts of their contracts. The station will shift to running pre-recorded segments in the overnight.
Update 7/14: The names of the CBS cuts keep increasing and reaching higher up in the organization.
Senior VP/Sales Sue McNamara is out after 7 1/2 years in the New York based position. Jeremy Larson, editor of Radio.com writes that he and six members of his editorial staff have been dismissed as the site will transition from original content to aggregated content.
Byron “Ron” Harrell, the Director of Music Programming for CBS Dallas and Program Director at Classic Hits 98.7 KLUV and Variety Hits “100.3 Jack-FM” KJKK since September 2012 is gone as well.
Update 7/14 1:00pm: More names that have been let go by CBS have started trickling out:
Business reporter Vince Hill leaves News 1060 KYW Philadelphia after 36 years at the station. Chicagoland Radio & Media reports ten people are out in Chicago including morning show producer Justyna Syska and production director Dustin Paul Karolewicz at Country “US 99.5” WUSN. Crain’s Detroit states thirteen people are out in that market including News 950 WWJ technology reporter Ed Cardenas.
Original Report 7/13: They’ve been rumored for quite awhile, but after months of cutting high-profile shows, CBS Radio has made numerous layoffs over the past few days.
With AllAccess reporting the cuts affecting as many as 200 employees, most appear to be on the sales and support side. Some names have started to trickle out as being affected:
In St. Louis, AC 102.5 KEZK morning host Vic Porcelli is out with afternoon host Greg Hewitt now listed in that slot. Also exiting that cluster is Hot AC “Y98” KYKY night host Brion O’Brion.
Seattle’s Sports “1090 The Fan” KFNQ loses its only local show as afternoon hosts Steve Sandmeyer and Jason Churchill exit. KFNQ will air the CBS Sports Radio network around the clock.
Hot AC “Fresh 102.7” WWFS New York loses morning co-host Kim Berk. Her former co-host Jim Douglas exited late last year and afternoon host Dylan departed the station in May.
Big mistake letting Freddy go. The bean-counters obviously have no idea how much at KROQ-2 and Jack was his work. I’d go so far as to say Kevin Weatherly probably feels like his right arm just got amputated.
Someone, somewhere, will find a reason to hire Freddy. He’s too talented to remain “on the beach” for long.
Today’s Detroit News has a column about the WWJ cuts, at http://www.detroitnews.com/story/opinion/columnists/neal-rubin/2015/07/16/radio-silence-wwj-quietly-cuts-staff-live-newscast/30217235. It says that afternoon drive may go to a solo-anchor format.
