The regional “Fan Sports Network” based at iHeartMedia’s 100.3 KFXN Minneapolis is crossing the border east into Wisconsin.
Red Rock Radio’s 105.7 WXCX Siren, WI dropped its Variety Hits “Sam-FM” format for Sports “105.7 The Fan” on Wednesday. Northpine.com reports that it is the seventh of Red Rock’s 25 stations to adopt a Sports format in the past year. The station is airing the KFXN originated programming from 6am to 7pm daily and NBC Sports Radio programming nights and weekends. The KFXN programming will make for an interesting match with WXCX’s role as the regions Green Bay Packers affiliate. The station also carries Minnesota Wild hockey.
The Fan Sports Network airs on stations across Minnesota and North Dakota and now has its first affiliate located in Wisconsin.
I vaguely recall Menomonie/Eau Claire’s WMEQ being technically considered an affiliate early in the network’s existence, when all of the outlets (IIRC) may have been owned by the former CC. That said, WMEQ would’ve only had a part-time affiliation, and would’ve still been primarily a Talk (as opposed to Sports) outlet.
