Joule Broadcasting’s 104.7 WELJ Montauk, NY/New London, CT has dropped its simulcast of Cumulus Country “Nash-FM 94.7” WNSH New York to shift to Cumulus’ “Nash Icon” brand.
WELJ is utilizing Westwood One’s nationally distributed version of Nash Icon. Joule Broadcasting is a divestiture trust that has operated WELJ since the merger of Cumulus and Citadel Broadcasting since 2011.
Westwood One announces the launch today of 104.7 NASH Icon (WELJ-FM) in New London, CT. 104.7 NASH Icon will feature Country music’s most iconic artists, driven by Country music fans’ desire for more exposure to their all-time favorite artists from the last 25 years.
WELJ-FM has been programmed as a simulcast of NASH Country-formatted station WNSH-FM in New York, and will continue to serve the Country audience with the new NASH Icon format. NASH Icon content is syndicated through Westwood One.
The NASH Icon format is an important complement to the more contemporary artists that are heard on NASH, its sister brand. Both NASH and NASH Icon stations provide advertisers the opportunity to engage with the passionate Country fan base across a multi-media platform that spans radio, television, digital, magazine, a record label and live events.
Jessica Vargas, Vice President/Market Manager for Cumulus New London said: “We are thrilled to be bringing the NASH Icon brand to the New London market. I’d like to thank Cumulus Media’s John Dickey, Mike McVay and Gary Pizzati, as well as Eddie Esserman and Joule Broadcasting for the tremendous partnership that has allowed this exciting station to come to our market. Connecticut listeners love their Country music, and NASH Icon will provide a unique new listening experience that they can’t get elsewhere.”
NASH and NASH Icon are based at the NASH Campus in Nashville, the nation’s only multi-media facility devoted solely to producing and distributing content based on the Country music lifestyle. Featuring three studios designed for a combination of TV and radio programming, indoor and outdoor event space, a print newsroom and extensive office space, leading Country stars such as Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum and Sheryl Crow are among the recent visitors.
Cumulus created the NASH entertainment brand based on the Country music lifestyle in 2013 starting with flagship radio station NASH FM 94.7 in New York City, which has rapidly become one of the most-listened-to Country stations in the nation.
