The “Something Different” at iHeartMedia’s “My 101.7” WHOF turned out to be a shift of the station to Variety Hits while retaining its current identity.
The playlist is now 1980s centric while stretching from the 70s through 2000s. All currents and recurrents are gone.
Original Report 9/6: iHeartMedia AC “My 101.7” WHOF North Canton, OH is promoting “Something Different” coming to the station on Tuesday, September 8 at 9:00am.
The station is currently running an all 80’s weekend and has purged all members of its on-air staff from its website.
With no domains registered yet for the station we’re wondering if iHeart is planning to promote “New Country 99.7” W259BW Canton/WHOF-HD2 to the full powered signal of 101.7? The Canton market’s Country audience is currently served by the translator and three out-of-market signals: Rubber City Radio’s 94.9 WQMX Akron, Dix Communications’ 104.5 WQKT Wooster, and Cumulus’ “K105” WQXK Salem/Youngstown.
Turns out to be just a revamp of the format, as they are claiming their music to be more “upbeat” and “fresh”. Honestly, I do not see much difference in their playlist and listeners have claimed to not notice much difference either, from their comments on Facebook.
