University of Pennsylvania AAA 88.5 WXPN Philadelphia has filled its vacant morning show opening with the addition of Kristen Kurtis.
Philadelphia native Kurtis was most recently APD/MD/Midday host at Emmis AAA 93.3 KGSR Austin and previously worked in Spokane and Boston. She takes the spot opened by the departure of Michaela Majoun after 25 years earlier this summer.
WXPN (XPN), the nationally-recognized leader in Triple A (adult album alternative) music and non-commercial radio station of the University of Pennsylvania, today announced that it has hired Kristen Kurtis as its new host of the XPN Morning Show. Her start date on-air will be in October.
“We’re really excited to have Kristen join our team,” said Bruce Warren, WXPN Assistant General Manager for Programming. “She’s a huge lover of music, radio, people and the Philly area, where she grew up.”
Most recently, Kurtis was the award-winning Midday Host, Assistant Program Director and Music Director at public radio station KGSR 93.3 FM in Austin, Texas, where she started in 2011. She was previously Midday Host and Music Director for KEZE 96.9 FM and Afternoon Host at KZZU 92.9 FM, both in Spokane, Washington. She began her radio career in Boston, where she graduated from Emerson College and was Morning Host at WERS 88.9, and later held on-air shifts at WBOS 92.9 FM.
“As one who was raised on Philadelphia radio, returning to the area via 88.5 brings my life and career full circle. I am ecstatic, proud, and honored to be joining the prestigious staff at WXPN,” said Kurtis.
In addition to on-air and programming expertise, Kurtis also brings to WXPN her skills in digital media, and experience in improv, sketch and stand-up comedy.
