Update 10/6: 560 WEBC/106.5 W293CT Duluth ended their stunting and launched Classic Rock “Sasquatch 106.5” today.
Positioned as “Real Classic Rock For The Northland”, the new format takes direct aim at Red Rocks Radio’s “95 KQDS“. The flip returns the syndicated Bob & Tom show to the market in mornings where it was previously heard on the now-defunct “96 Rock” KDAL-FM.
Original Report 10/1: Townsquare Media has dropped the Sports programming of “ESPN 560” WEBC Duluth, MN as it launched an FM translator on 106.5.
WEBC and 106.5 W293CT Duluth are currently stunting with Christmas music as “Ho Ho 106.5” as it prepares to launch a new format. While the station is branding itself as “The Northland’s Year Round Christmas Super Station”, that will not be the permanent format. We had reported earlier in September that 1065Music.com, 1065Rocks.com, Sasquatch1065.com, SquatchRocks.com, and TheSquatchRocks.com had been registered by Townsquare for WEBC/W293CT.
Northpine.com reports that the stunting began at 6:00pm on Wednesday.
Per this new story, the new format may be launched (or, at least, formally announced) “next week”…

Despite the registered URL’s, could an AM/FM Top 40 be out of the question? With KDWZ dropping Top 40 for Classic Country a couple weeks ago, and WWAX dropping Hot AC for Sports earlier this year, could Townsquare lean KBMX back towards Hot AC and introduce a Top 40 station again? I’m thinking not, but it’s a fantasy. The FM signal covers Duluth and Superior well, plus some close Duluth suburbs.
I’m stunned that Duluth/Superior haven’t found a successor to fill the Top 40 void.
