Entercom Sports “610 Sports” KCSP Kansas City has signed a four year extension to remain the flagship station for the Kansas City Royals.
The defending World Champions have been heard on KCSP since 2008. The franchise’s recent run of back-to-back World Series appearances has turned into a ratings goldmine for the station, which has led the market at multiple times during the past season including a station-high 7.4 share in the May 2015 PPM monthly.
The Kansas City Royals and 610 Sports Radio, a member of the Entercom Communications Corporation, today announced a new four-year agreement to broadcast the Royals on radio through the 2019 season. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. 610 Sports Radio has been the broadcast home of the Kansas City Royals in the Kansas City area since the 2008 season.
“We not only take a lot of pride in what occurs on the playing field, but also who partners with us off the field and at the end of the day our organization has been very pleased with the Entercom partnership, specifically 610 Sports Radio, over the last eight seasons. It was only natural for us to maintain that relationship,” said Kevin Uhlich, Royals’ Senior Vice President of Business Operations. “Not only is the signal of 610 Sports Radio recognizable to all sports fans in the area, the overall Entercom cluster of stations makes them an attractive partner to spread the word about Royals’ baseball, not only to sports fans, but radio listeners of all genres.”
“We are delighted to extend this partnership,” said Dave Alpert, Vice President and General Manager of Entercom Kansas City. “Not only are the Royals the World Champions, as partners they are a world class organization. We are proud to align KCSP 610 Sports Radio with the Kansas City Royals for four more years. Two winning teams.”
Specifics of the agreement include that all 162 Royals regular season contests, plus all postseason games, will be carried on 610 Sports Radio. In addition, a minimum of 20 Spring Training games from the Cactus League will also be broadcast each season as well as the weekly “Royals Hot Stove” show from January through March. Dates and times of the spring broadcasts as well as the “Hot Stove” show will be announced at a later date.
