The CBS hits keep coming with the dismissal of Rod Zimmerman and Mark Day from their positions leading the Chicago cluster for the company.
As first reported by Robert Feder, Zimmerman has served as Senior Vice President and Market Manager since 2003. He had worked for CBS since 1978 including stints overseeing WBBM Chicago, KMOX St. Louis, and WWJ Detroit. Mark Day was Vice President/Director of Sales since 2012 and previously a General Sales Manager.
Update 1/6: Over the holiday break names of more people affected by the end of 2015 budget cuts at CBS Radio became known. Among those exiting the company are:
Pat Carroll, who had been with News 880 WCBS New York since 1995 and in mornings since 1996. Wayne Cabot moves from afternoons to mornings to join Paul Murnane. Michael Wallace becomes Steve Scott’s afternoon co-anchor while also anchoring the 12pm hour solo.
Kenny Walker departs Country “99.9 Kiss Country” WKIS Miami after seven years following the expiration of his contract. Walker is best known for his long run at CHR “Y100” WHYI and is rumored to be heading to Entercom’s newly launched Classic Hits “102.7 The Beach” WMXJ.
PK is out as a member of the “Hot Show” in mornings at CHR “Hot 95.7” KKHH Houston. Co-hosts Ivan and Sarah Pepper remain in place.
Doug McElvein is out as co-anchor of “Total Information AM” at News/Talk 1120 KMOX St. Louis. McElvein had been with the station since 1993 and in mornings since 1998.
Jack Shell leaves his APD/MD/Midday host role at Country 99.5 WYCD Detroit.
Former NFL player and television analyst Randy Cross exits the midday show at Sports “92.9 The Game” WZGC Atlanta. Rick Kamla remains in the 10am-2pm slot.
Original Report 12/18: In addition to leasing 99.1 WNEW Bowie MD to Bloomberg and letting go of the majority of that station’s staffers, CBS Radio has been making cuts at clusters around the country.
Among the staffers we can confirm are out are Brian “Monty” Montgomery, the morning host at Country “Y108” WDSY-FM Pittsburgh. Montgomery had been in mornings at WDSY since 1993. His former co-host Jimmy Roach had been let go in the company-wide cuts made this past summer. Also exiting the Pittsburgh cluster is Mike Flick, the APD/MD/Afternoon host at Hot AC “100.7 Star” WBZZ. Co-host Kelly Langenohl will remain as solo host.
In Philadelphia, sports blog Crossing Broad reports that Andy Bloom is out as Operations Manager of Sports 94.1 WIP and Talk 1210 WPHT. Bloom had overseen programming at those stations and defunct Rocker 94.1 WYSP since joining the company in 2007.
We’ve heard of further people let go in other markets as well.
Flick gets the boot again?!?! That sucks 🙁
Why Monty from Y108. CBS has lost their mind it was bad enough to get rid of Jimmy Roach
