Update 10/5: Clear Channel made the flip at KRZR today at noon local time. The new “103.7 The Beat” could best be classified as a Rhythmic version of the GenX Radio format that Clear Channel has rolled out in a few markets over the past year, much like its sister “93.9 Jamz” in Honolulu.
The first hour of 103.7 The Beat consisted of:
2 Unlimited – Get Ready For This
Prince & The Revolution – Kiss
C&C Music Factory – Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)
Cameo – Word Up
Club Nouveau – Lean On Me
Salt-N-Pepa – Shoop
Young MC – Bust A Move
TLC – Creep
2Pac – California Love
Nu Shooz – I Can’t Wait
Deee-Lite – Groove Is In The Heart
Naughty By Nature – Hip Hop Hooray
Original Report 9/15: Active Rock is on its way out in Fresno as Clear Channel prepares to flip 103.7 KRZR. Domain registrations pinpoint “The Beat” as the new name of the station via registrations of 1037Beat.com, FresnoBeat.com, TheBeat1037.com, and TheBeatFresno.com. As Clear Channel already operates Rhythmic CHR “B95” KBOS in the market, it appears that The Beat will be some form of Rhythmic AC targetting Peak Broadcasting’s Rhythmic Oldies “Mega 97.9” KMGV, while flanking B95 and sister Adult CHR “Alice 96.7” KALZ and AC “Soft Rock 98.9” KSOF.
The info appears to be solid, but nobody has ever, EVER, ever called KRZR “The Razor.”
Dead or Alive, 103.7 KRZR is and always will be “The Wild Hare.”
Some of the staff have seen this and the domain reg. details (all four registered to CC 9/13). The new book starts tomorrow…I hope KRZR sees one more sunrise…
