Update 9/28: XEPE will retain its brokered financial programming from 9am to 2pm weekdays, but air ESPN Radio’s programming the remainder of the time. Sister “XX 1090” will replace Sporting News Radio with ESPN on overnights and weekends.
Original Report 9/26: ESPN Radio may be on the verge of returning to the San Diego market following the demise of “ESPN 98.9” in August. Broadcast Company of the Americas registered the following domains on Thursday: ESPN1700.com, ESPN1700SD.com, ESPN1700SanDiego.com, 1700ESPN.com, and 1700ESPNSD.com. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported on Friday that BCA was in negotiations for the rights to ESPN Radio in the San Diego market.
“San Diego 1700” as the station is currently known, airs a mix of brokered business talk and simulcasts of sister “XX 1090“. Licensed to Tecate, Baja California as XEPE, the 10kw station has city grade coverage of San Diego from its transmitter just south of the US border.
