Update 11/4: Barnstable confirms that the change to 90’s Hits will take place Friday, November 5 at 5:00pm. Morning host Phathead and middayer Malibu Sue have been let go as part of the changes.
The new “94X” will focus on pop music from 1985 to 2005, aka “Music For Generation X”. The station will debut jockless, although PD Jon Daniels and night jock Rob Rush remain with the company. Joel Salkowitz, currently programming Dance webcaster “Pulse 87 Online” and former PD at a number of New York stations will be consulting the new format.
Update 10/23: WMJC has changed its calls to WIGX. Could Long Island be inline for a 90s based Gen X format?
Original Post 10/10: Barnstable Broadcasting’s Long Island Radio Group could be on the verge of a change at Hot AC 94.3 WMJC Smithtown, NY. Domain registrations were made on Friday for 94XRadio.com and My94X.com.
As Long Island is embedded in the New York market, we wonder how Univision’s “X96.3” WXNY will feel about the usage of the X moniker. We expect that if/when WMJC changes format, it will not be as 94X.
Barnstable also owns AC “K-Joy” 98.3 WKJY/96.1 WKJI, Classic Rock 103.9 WRCN, Classic Hits “B103” WBZO, and Standards 1100 WHLI in the Nassau/Suffolk market.
