A change or rebranding appears imminent at Clear Channel Rhythmic AC “My 106.1” WISX Philadelphia. The adjacent logo appeared on the Clear Channel servers tagged “DEV_WISX-FM” earlier today. The domains MixPhiladelphia.com and KissPhilly.com were registered by Clear Channel’s registrar earlier this month.
WISX has shifted with various leans of Rhythmic and Hot AC since flipping from Smooth Jazz in 2006. A rebranding could give the station a chance to reintroduce or tighten up its formatics. Ironically, Greater Media’s 95.7 had the same issue when it operated under the “Mix” moniker from 2001 to 2005.
If WISX changes formats, could Clear Channel launch an all-Christmas format in the next couple of days (I’m writing this on Sunday, November 14th) as a stunt??
If CC were to do that, and if WISX were first in the market to go all-Christmas, it might force three other stations in Philadelphia (WBEB, WOGL, and WBEN-FM), and one in nearby Wilmington (WJBR) to flip in short order
As of this morning, the station ID’ed itself on air as “Mix 106.1”. I believe the positioner is the best mix of the 80’s, 90’s and today. And, no, I did NOT hear any holiday tunes.
