Talk 107.3 is carrying CBS News
Update 4/4: The changes have begun as 104.9 KNXX has begun simulcasting the Classic Country “Country Legends” programming. The duo will simulcast until Monday, April 18 at which point the new Talk format will debut on 107.3.
Update 3/30: Guaranty will begin its changes on Monday, April 4 as Classic Country moves to 104.9 displacing Modern Rock “104 The X“. An additional pair of domains to add to their portfolio are CountryLegends1049.com and Talk1073.com.
Update 3/23: The Baton Rouge Business Report confirms the flips will take place in the next few weeks.
“We’re getting out of alternative rock and into news talk,” says Gordy Rush, market manager. “It’s going to happen in a couple of stages.”
This pretty much confirms that “Country Legends” will shift to 104.9, and 107.3 will become News/Talk “107.3 The Capital“.
Update 2/17: As what usually happens after we break a report of a pending change, Guaranty has registered a few more domains to act as potential decoys. The new domains registered even throw in one for sister Country “100.7 The Tiger” WTGE. They are: 1007TheArrow.com, 1049ThePoint.com, 1073Jazz.com, 1073Magic.com, and 1073TheBreeze.com.
Original Report 2/14: Guaranty Broadcasting is preparing to shift one of its Baton Rouge, LA stations to a new frequency while launching a new format at the other.
The Classic Country programming of “Country Legends 107.3” WYPY Baker will shift to the 104.9 frequency currently the home of Active Rock “104.9 The X” KNXX Donaldsonville. 1049CountryLegends.com was registered on February 12. 104.9 rimshots Baton Rogue from about 35 miles to the south.
The 107.3 signal transmits from Baton Rouge proper giving it a stronger signal over the more populated areas of the market. As for what will be coming to the frequency, registrations for 1073TheCapital.com and 1073TheCapitol.com don’t give much hints towards the future format. The Capital branding is used for Adult Alternative in Des Moines and CHR in the UK.
WYPY 107.3 has had a lot of formats over the years in Baton Rouge since it signed on in the early ’90s — AC “B107.3”, smooth jazz “Breeze”, modern rock “Tiger”, oldies “Oldies 107.3”, jammin’ oldies, R&B “Jammin’ 107.3”, classic country.
Other current uses include CKRA 96.3 Edmonton is classic hits “Capital FM” and CIBX 106.9 Fredericton NB is AC “Capital FM”…
Several stations in the past have used it for hot AC — today’s KAMX 94.7 in Austin was at one time hot AC “Capital 94-7” KAPT; today’s WPTR 96.7 Albany was also “Capital” WWCP-FM in the early ’90s.
