Update 5/22: KYRK will launch in early July as Classic Hits “106.5 The Shark” positioned as “Killer Hits of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s”. A promotional site located at SampleHour.com features a sample music log and aircheck of what to expect and not expect from the new station.
The new format will pit the station in direct competition with Clear Channel’s “Oldies 93.9” KMXR. The last time the Corpus Christi ratings were released publicly in the Spring of 2009 saw that station resting at the top of the market.
Original Report 4/28: The former 106.1 KTKY Refugio, TX is just about ready to complete its move into the Corpus Christi market.
Following the completion of its move-in, the currently silent station owned by Pacific Broadcasting of Missouri will relocate to 106.5 licensed to Taft, TX. New calls of KYRK went into effect on Tuesday, April 26. Four domains were registered last week for possible use by the station. 1065EverythingCountry.com, MovinRadio1065.com, and Now1065.com were all registered to Corpus Christi based Bogey Broadcasting on 4/22, while 1065TheShark.com was anonymously registered the same day. Based on the KYRK calls, which vaguely resemble to word Shark we’re going to place our expertise on the station using that moniker when it debuts from its new location.
Out of curiosity, doing a google search today on 106.5 the Shark yields … http://samplehour.com/.
I wonder if this site is legit in terms of KYRK’s future sign-on and format?
Chip,
That is frightening in that I just found that site and am in the process of writing up an update. There’s also a Twitter account at @1065TheShark with the same logo promoting a July launch.
