The Dallas/Fort Worth Country war will soon see another entrant as Clear Channel looks ready to flip Rock “97.1 The Eagle” KEGL to Country.
971TheBull.com was registered by Clear Channel on September 1 and is already redirecting to KEGL’s website. A shift to Country for the struggling Rocker could be a preemptive strike against Cumulus. Once the merger with Citadel closes, Cumulus will own both Country outlets in the market: “99.5 The Wolf” KPLX and “New Country 96.3” KSCS. With The Bull in place, Cumulus may reconsider replacing one of the Country stations with a format that could compete with one of Clear Channel’s other stations in the market.
In addition to 97.1 KEGL, Clear Channel also owns CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS, Hot AC “Mix 102.9” KDMX, Modern Rock “102.1 The Edge” KDGE, Classic Rock “Lonestar 92.5” KZPS, and Talk “DFW 1190” KFXR in the Dallas/Ft. Worth market.
