Update 1/9: WDOK has rebranded this morning as “New 102” following a week of teases.
Longtime morning host Trapper Jack returned this morning after being kept off last week during the stunt period, although it was announced during the show that co-host Terry Moir would be leaving the show at the end of this week to focus on her primary job as Director of Programming & Sales Marketing at WKYC-TV.
The station is still promoting more changes to come this week including a new local night show to replace Delilah.
Meanwhile at sister Adult CHR “Q104” WQAL, afternoon host Heather Blackman is leaving to return to Montreal as morning co-host at Astral Rock 97.7 CHOM.
Original Report 1/4: Changes are afoot at CBS AC 102.1 WDOK Cleveland.
As Ohio Media Watch reports, midday Nancy Alden has been let go from the station after almost 25 years at the station. Alden and the syndicated Delilah, heard at night have been purged from the station’s website.
The station is currently running jockless as the morning show led by Trapper Jack and afternoon host Desiray McCray have the week off. Sweepers are proclaiming “The New 102 Coming Soon” and New102.com was registered anonymously by CBS’ domain registrar on December 12.
The music has gotten, to use a moniker used at other CBS AC’s “Fresher“. The playlist is much more recurrent heavy than it was previously. There is more overlap with sister Hot AC “Q104” WQAL, which the stations worked to prevent in the past. The moves in general are similar to the ones made at CBS’ 102.5 KEZK St. Louis in late 2010 to counter aging demos.
There are already plenty of pop and top 40 stations in Cleveland. 102.1 had been soft rock wdok forever, and it wasn’t broken then. So why was it “fixed?”
