Update 3/2: WMXZ will become Rock “103.1 The Blaze” WZLB when it debuts its new format at 5pm Central.
Update 2/28: 103.1 is now promoting that its new format will launch on Friday, March 2 at 5:00pm. Behind construction sounds the station is teasing such lines as “This Friday at 5 we’re gonna burn up your radio” and “Can you feel the heat? Don’t get burned?”
It looks like we’ll have to scratch Foxie1031.com as a possibility. That is now pointing to a domain squatter and has been put up for auction.
Update 2/19: WFFY has changed calls to WECQ.
The first tidbits of the new 92Q lineup have come out as the syndicated Elvis Duran and Ryan Seacrest will move from WMXZ. Listen to the launch of 92Q at FormatChange.com.
Original Report 2/18: Apex Broadcasting has closed on its purchase of four stations in Fort Walton Beach, FL from Qantum Communications and begun the process of revamping its cluster.
Rhythmic “Fly 92.1” WFFY shifted to Mainstream CHR as “Q92” at 5pm Friday. Branded as “All The Hits“, the station is a marriage of WFFY and what was sister Adult CHR “Mix 103.1” WMXZ. The format is in direct competition with Cumulus’ Adult CHR “Z96” WZNS.
103.1 is currently stunting in preparation of a new format there, while directing listeners to 92.1. Foxie1031.com was registered anonymously on Wednesday and MAY be for use at WMXZ. That would seemingly indicate Urban AC coming to station.
In addition to WFFY and WMXZ, Apex Broadcasting also owns Country “Highway 98” WHWY-FM and Variety Hits “102.1 The Wave” WWAV.
