Update 5/7: 107.3 debuted as “Oldies 107.3” WODX at 9am this morning. The station is branding as “Rochester’s Only Oldies Station” and “Playing Motown Soul and Great Rock & Roll”. First song was Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock & Roll”.
Original Report 5/5: Clear Channel has broken the simulcast of Sports 1280 WHTK Rochester and 107.3 WHTK-FM South Bristol, NY. 107.3 is currently directing its listeners back to 1280.
Update 2:30pm: Northeast Radio Watch’s Scott Fybush tells us that the station has applied for new WODX calls (and WQBW for 95.1) which would appear to indicate that “Oldies 107.3” and the OldiesRochester.com domain listed below are on its way.
Original Report 12:40pm: What’s next? When Clear Channel registered 951TheBrew.com for the relaunch of 95.1 WFXF that took place last monday, they also registered HitsRochester.com, OldiesRochester.com, and RushRochester.com. All three domains are now parked redirecting to the site for sister Country 102.5 KMFX in Rochester, MN.
107.3 is a rimshot signal into Rochester and as such Clear Channel has never found the perfect fit for it. Since Jacor (later merged into Clear Channel) acquired the station in 1998 it has had ten formats (Smooth Jazz “CD107.3”, Rhythmic CHR “Jam’n 107”, Mainstream CHR “Kiss 107”, 80’s “Channel 107.3”, Rhythmic Oldies “Cool 107.3”, Classic Rock “107.3 The Fox”, Active Rock “107.3 The Nerve” , Rhythmic AC “Snap 107.3”, “Country 107.3”, and Sports) as well as three prolonged stunts and nine sets of call letters (WRCD, WMAX-FM, WLCL, WFXF, WNVE, WSNP, WCRR, WROO, WHTK-FM).
