Update 5/25: At 9am today, 103.7 WXKT segued to Variety Hits “103.7 Chuck-FM” with no fanfare. The station came out of a stopset and began playing Queen’s “We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions”.
Original Report 5/19: With a Classic Hits void about to open up as 106.7 WYAY becomes “All News 106.7“, the hole looks like it will be filled in the Athens, GA market by Cox Media.
1037ChuckFM.com has been registered by the webmaster of Cox’s Athens properties for what is now News/Talk/Sports “Bulldog 103.7” WXKT Maysville. The station flipped to its most recent identity last December which features a local news block in mornings followed by a local talk host that has been on hiatus as she runs for Congress, Jim Rome in middays, America’s Radio News Network in afternoons and Yahoo! Sports Radio in other dayparts.
A flip to Variety Hits would fill part of WYAY’s niche on the eastern side of its current coverage (at least until it moves to downtown Atlanta on 106.5). Cox debuted its first “Chuck-FM” and Variety Hits format on a translator in Greenville, SC in December.
Technically, there won’t be a real “Classic hits void” because of 97.1 the river playing a rock based classic hits.
