Update 9/20/07 4:45pm: Not surprisingly, the link to the page with the Ticket logo has been edited to remove the logo and the backdoor we used was closed. The site is still up, but completely behind a login now.
It’s been quite an eventful month in the Boston talk radio wars between Entercom and Greater Media. While WRKO and WTKK battle over the contract of Howie Carr, the companies may about to be going head-to-head in the Sports Radio field dominated by Entercom’s WEEI.
Earlier this month, WEEI morning team John Dennis and Gerry Callahan were involved in a contract battle of their own. Just yesterday, Boston Sports Media Watch reported that WBOS was indeed the primary suitor with plans to go up against WEEI. This brought out the Net-Gnomes which discovered 4 domains registered in late August to a local Boston resident.
All four domains, point to a generic login screen. However, a little digging brought us to their Terms of Service Page featuring the logo above. A look into the code legitimizes the site as much of the site uses services on the Greater Media server.
That’s the facts. We know WBOS would’ve went all-Sports if they hired Dennis & Callahan. But, who’s to say the flip isn’t still happening. We’re not. In fact our Gnomes fully expect to see 92.9 The Ticket by October 1 (which also happens to be the day Dan Patrick begins his new syndicated show). We also wouldn’t expect Entercom to take the competition lightly. Plans could be in motion to give WEEI an in-market FM signal as well.
