Update 10/14: “94.3 The X” began simulcasting on 95.7 at 12am this morning.
The 94.3 and 95.7 simulcast will continue until the end of the month at which time owner John Pirkle will reassume operation of the station. The WNFZ call letters will remain with 94.3, while 95.7 will change from WQJK to WVRX legally once the FCC reopens.
Update 9/30: “The X” format will relocate from 94.3 WNFZ to 95.7 WQJK on Monday, October 14.
Update 9/29: “94.3 The X” is promoting an “Important Announcement Regarding The Future Of The X” for Monday morning at 7, 8, and 9AM. With a graphic on the website hyping that the station is changing, WNFZ will be announcing its imminent move to 95.7.
Original Report 9/13: Rumors are flying that South Central Media’s LMA with owner John Pirkle for 94.3 WNFZ Powell/Knoxville could be coming to an end in October.
Fueling the flames we can add that South Central has registered 957TheX.com for the station’s current Active Rock “94.3 The X” format. Such a move would spell the end for CHR “95.7 Power-FM” WQJK.
Pirkle’s Oak Ridge FM also owned then 100.3 WNOX-FM until December 2012 when it sold the station to Journal Broadcasting for $6 Million. 100.3 was leased to Citadel Broadcasting until July 2010 when Pirkle began operating the station themselves.
