Update 6:30pm: After three hours of stunting with the song snippets, KKTX-FM relaunched at 5pm CDT as “Classic Rock 96.1“.
Most of the station’s daily lineup stays the same with John Boy & Billy in morning drive, Don Jones middays, and Chris Ryan afternoons. Weekender Bill Lee moves to nights replacing the syndicated Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx.
Original Report 4:30pm: Townsquare Media Active Rock “96X Rocks” KKTX-FM Kilgore/Tyler, TX is stunting with song snippets from a variety of formats.
With a domain registration for ClassicRock961.com made by Townsquare last month, it appears the stunt will lead to a musical shift to Classic Rock. KKTX was the lowest rated on Townsquare’s four Tyler/Longview market stations with a 4.4 share in the Spring 2013 ratings. In addition to KKTX, Townsquare owns Hot AC “Mix 93.1” KTYL, Country 101.5 KNUE, and Urban AC “Hot 107.3” KISX.

Liner just said “changes coming in less than one hour,” which leads me to believe they’ll be out of stunting at 5:00 Central time.
Launch sequence playing now; classic rock website is live. John Boy & Billy mornings.
