Update 3/18: WRWN debuted its new Classic Hits identity “Rewind 107.9” at 12am this morning.
Focusing on pop hits from the 70s and 80s “with a taste of the 60s”, the station is launching with the usual 10,000 songs in a row.
L&L Broadcasting of Portland, Oregon announced today that Savannah/Hilton Head has launched Rewind 107.9.
The New Rewind 107.9 provides Pop Classic Hits from the 70’s and 80’s with a taster of the 60’s. 10,000 songs in a row featuring The Beatles, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, and more!
“Rewind 107.9 will provide the Savannah & Hilton Head markets with a station full of music they grew up listening to from the 70’s, 80’s & More. Male and female adults between 35 & 54 are very passionate about these eras. They will be very happy it’s finally on the air all in one place,” said Rewind 107.9 Program Director Tony Bristol.
L&L Broadcasting VP & Market Manager, Gigi South added, “We expect Rewind 107.9 to be a huge success with both listeners and our advertisers. Time to free your mind and Rewind!”
L&L Broadcasting Director of Programming, Scott Mahalick remarked, “The listeners of Savannah/Hilton-Head have been asking for a station like Rewind 107.9 for quite awhile. It’s the perfect blend of 70’s, 80’s mixed in with the music you’ve always loved.”
Update 3/14: For the second time in three years, 107.9 will stunt as “Shamrock 107.9” with a mix of Celtic music and Irish bands over St. Patrick’s Day weekend to lead into the launch of a new format. The station did the same in 2011 prior to the debut of “Y107.9“.
WRWN will debut its new permanent format on Tuesday, March 18.
Original Report 3/12: Following the relocation of Hot AC WXYY from 107.9 to 100.1 last week, L&L Broadcasting has revealed what’s on its way to what is now 107.9 WRWN Port Royal, SC.
Perfectly matching the WRWN call letters, Rewind1079.com is now redirecting to an in-development site for L&L’s corporate page. A “Rewind” branded station will return Classic Hits to the market after two stations dropped the format in the past year.
L&L flipped then “Big 98.3” WGCO Midway, GA to Classic Country in August 2013, while “103.1 The Drive” WGZO Parris Island, SC was flipped to Variety Hits last month following its divestment by L&L to Apex Broadcasting.
