An new competitor to CBS’ “Power 98” WPEG Charlotte is on the way.
Steve Hegwood, whose Core Communicators currently operates “Streetz” branded Urban stations in Atlanta and Little Rock, appears set to bring the brand to Charlotte via 250 watt translator 103.3 W277CB.
The translator is owned by RFPJY, Inc. and currently rebroadcasts Urban Oldies 1370 WGIV Pineville. The currently in-development website for “Streetz 103.3” is currently live with the “We R Hip Hop” tagline used by its sisters. The design is identical to KZTS Little Rock and promotes the Atlanta station’s concert taking place on April 26.
The new format will directly compete with WPEG, which currently leads the Charlotte market with a 7.1 share in the February 2014 Nielsen Audio PPM’s.
Hegwood’s group also operates Urban “Power 107” WFXM Gordon/Macon and is in the process of purchasing 94.5 WIPK-FM Calhoun/Rome and the CP for 93.5 WMRG Morgan/Albany.
94.5 in North Georgia is WIPK-FM, now WIBK. 93.5 WMRG serves the Albany, GA area, not Augusta.
