Update 9/5: Mount Wilson FM has closed on their purchase of Soft AC “B103.9” KBOQ Seaside/Monterey from Mapleton Communications and flipped the station this morning to Classic Hits “Q103.9“.
The move brings the Classic Hits format back to the market for the first time since now-sister 97.9 KYZZ flipped to Sports in 2012. The new format is focusing on music from the mid-1960s through mid-1980s.
Original Report 7/16: When Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters closes on its purchase of Soft AC “B103.9” KBOQ Seaside/Monterey as part of the three-way swap involving Buckley Broadcasting and Mapleton Communications it appears the a new format will debut.
Mount Wilson has registered Q1039TheHits.com for KBOQ. A CHR format would compete with Clear Channel’s market leading Rhythmic CHR 102.5 KDON and Mapleton’s Adult CHR “101.7 The Beach” KCDU. Mount Wilson has launched multiple formats in recent months in Monterey. “Z Country 97.9” KYZZ debuted in May and was followed by Alternative “Alt Rock 106.7” in June.
