WDOK began utilizing its new “Star 102” identity this morning.
No other changes accompanied the new name, which brings an end to the “New 102” moniker after over three years.

Original Report 4/1: A rebranding is on its way to CBS AC “New 102” WDOK Cleveland.
As the station currently runs a “$102 Star of the Day” contest, WDOK is preparing to relaunch as “Star 102“. Star102Cleveland.com was registered last week and the station’s Facebook page has already been changed to Facebook.com/star102.
WDOK rebranded as “New 102” in January 2012 as many AC stations refreshed their identities to attract a younger demo core. In the February 2015 Nielsen Audio PPM ratings WDOK was sixth overall in the market with a 6.1 share despite having the second highest Cume.
This is a pretty good rebrand for WDOK. I thought that the “New 102” should have lasted for 3 months, not over 3 years.
The ‘New 102’ name having been used for over 3 years reminds me of what happened when WBNS 97.1 in Columbus flipped from oldies to AC. They were ‘The New 97.1’ for about that long before finally rebranding as ‘Mix 97.1’ before later flipping to all sports ‘97.1 the Fan’
