Cumulus made the flip of “104.1 The Fan” KZJF Jefferson City to Classic Hits “Z104.1” at 12pm today.
Tim Thomas, afternoon host at sister AC 101.5 KPLA Columbia, will add additional duties as morning host at KZJF. The rest of the day will utilize Westwood One’s Classic Hits network. Kansas City Royals baseball will remain on KZJF following the flip from Sports.
Original Report 6/19: Cumulus appears to be on the verge of dropping the Sports format of “104.1 The Fan” KZJF Jefferson City, MO.
While no format change has taken place yet, the station’s website now redirects to Z1041.com and branding the station as “Jefferson City’s Classic Hits Station”. KZJF currently airs CBS Sports Radio programming outside of simulcasting the afternoon drive “The Closers” Sports Talk show based at sister News/Talk 1400 KFRU Columbia. KZJF picked up the Sports format in October 2013 when it was moved from 100.1 KBBM.
A flip to Classic Hits at KZJF also will bring the future of “Cool 97.5” KJMO Linn into question. KJMO, which has nearly identical coverage to KZJF, currently airs Westwood One’s “Good Time Oldies” network programming.
Yet another new format on 104.1… It really has been the format of the week station in Mid MO since its inception, never really finding an audience. Nash FM has been tanking on 100.1, as the market is already overly saturated with Country; was kinda hoping for a return of Classic Hits and the heritage KJMO calls to 100.1. I don’t think 104.1 was carrying any local programming at all, just the CBS SportsRadio programming. Neither stick puts a decent signal into Columbia, although 104.1 can be heard on a car radio while 97.5 generally gets blasted out by KPOW on 97.7.
