Do Social Media Likes Lead To Ratings: Part 1

One week after the launch of Country “94.7 Nash-FM” New York the first thing we noticed were the amount of people that quickly began following the station on social media. Seven days into operation WNSH already has 8894 likes on Facebook and 2356 Twitter followers*. To put it into comparison, top rated AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW has just 18,442 likes. The most liked New York radio station on Facebook belongs to “Hot 97” WQHT with 275,516. While we are unable to parse any demographic info from the amount of likes, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that a younger skewing station has 10 times as many followers as an office friendly background station. We’ve selected eight stations that launched new formats in PPM markets over the past month. Some ...Read More

Cox Debuts Power 106.1 Jacksonville

Update 1/10: The “106.1 The Dove” micro-format ended at noon today as Cox Media debuted Urban “Power 106.1“. The station is launching commercial free with 10,000 songs in a row. As explained below, the translator being fed by 96.9 WJGL-HD2 is being used to help Cox attempt to dislodge Clear Channel’s “93.3 The Beat” WJBT from the number one spot in the market. Update 1/7: Is the Dove nothing more than a teaser micro-format? We’re told that the station is running the same songs on a loop. We were tipped off that Power1061.com, which was registered anonymously last August has since been joined by a blank Twitter account and a hidden Facebook page. Perhaps something to knock Clear Channel’s market leading Urban “93.3 The Beat” ...Read More

Translator Report 11/6

It’s not every day that you see a full powered station traded for a translator. Cumulus and EMF Broadcasting made such a deal this week with Cumulus sending Oldies 102.3 WFVL-FM Lumberton, NC to EMF for 100.7 K264AS Mooringsport, LA. The translator, which serves the Shreveport market has a construction permit to move to downtown Shreveport with 250 watts. Following the FCC decision to force “104.7 The Oasis” W284BQ Detroit off the air until it can find a new frequency, Radio Power Inc. has applied to move the translator to 93.5 where it will operate with 99 watts. Radio Power has also purchased 97.5 W248AQ Harrison, MI from Radio Assist Ministry for $32,000. That translator has applied to move to downtown Detroit with 250 watts on 107.1. Both 935TheOasis.com and 1071TheOa...Read More
