iHeart Launches Jacksonville Project

Following the move on Friday of Active Rock “Planet Radio” to 97.3 W247CF, iHeartMedia launched Alternative “Project 106.9” on W295AZ Jacksonville Beach. Debuting at midnight, the new format will pair with “Planet” to attack Cox Media Alternative “X102.9” WXXJ. “DC 101” WWDC Washington DC based Elliot in the Morning will remain on 106.9.

Planet Moving In Jacksonville

iHeartMedia Active Rock “106.9 Planet Radio” W295AZ Jacksonville Beach/WKSL-HD2 Neptune Beach FL has announced it will move to 97.3 on Friday, January 22. 97.3 W247CF Orange Park will be the new home for the Active Rock programming. The Delmarva Educational Association owned translator is licensed to operate with 99 watts at 274 meters (Coverage Map), giving it a slight coverage edge over the 106.9 signal. Planet Radio Returns To Jacksonville

Clear Channel has relaunched the “Planet Radio” Rock brand in Jacksonville. The new incarnation of the station comes via translator 106.9 W295AZ and 97.9 WNWW-HD2. The 99 watt translator had been rebroadcasting Clear Channel’s “Sportsradio 930” WFXJ. The Active Rocker is being branded as “Jacksonville’s Real Rock” and promoting being commercial free all summer long. “106.9 Planet Radio” is the third Jacksonville frequency to hold the Planet identity as it first aired on 93.3 from 1995 to 2005 and 107.3 from 2005 until August 2010. It’s not every day that you see a full powered station traded for a translator. Cumulus and EMF Broadcasting made such a deal this week with Cumulus sending Oldies 102.3 WFVL-FM Lumberton, NC to EMF for 100.7 K264AS Mooringsport, LA. The translator, which serves the Shreveport market has a construction permit to move to downtown Shreveport with 250 watts. Following the FCC decision to force “104.7 The Oasis” W284BQ Detroit off the air until it can find a new frequency, Radio Power Inc. has applied to move the translator to 93.5 where it will operate with 99 watts. Radio Power has also purchased 97.5 W248AQ Harrison, MI from Radio Assist Ministry for $32,000. That translator has applied to move to downtown Detroit with 250 watts on 107.1.
