Gray Television Divests Schurz Clusters To Three Buyers

Gray Television has no intent on becoming radio operators. In its $442.5 million deal to acquire Schurz Communications, the company inherited radio clusters in Lafayette and South Bend IN and Rapid City SD. They have simultaneously filed to transfer each market to a different buyer. The Lafayette stations Rock 93.5 WKHY, Classic Hits 98.7 WASK-FM, CHR “B102.9” WXXB, Country “K105” 105.3 WKOA, and Sports “ESPN 1450” WASK will go to Neuhoff Communications for $8 million. The purchase is the first move of Neuhoff outside the state of Illinois where the company owns clusters in Danville, Decatur, and Springfield and agreed to purchase Connoisseur’s three Bloomington stations a few weeks ago. If accepted it will operate with 40 watts with city grade coverage over the bulk of Manhattan. Instead of rebroadcasting Clear Channel’s 106.7 WLTW-HD2, the application changes the originating station to 93.5 WVOX New Rochelle, NY. EMF Broadcasting has applied to move 91.9 W220DM Parma, OH to 92.7 due to displacement from WKJA Brunswick, OH. Clear Channel continues to be active moving translators into major markets. First in the nation’s capital where they are moving 94.3 W232CB Frederick, MD down I-270 towards Washington. The translator has applied to move to Clarksburg, MD where it will operate with 60 watts. The move will place it approximately 30 miles northwest of Washington in what appears to be the first step towards the Capital. In Cleveland, CC has amended its application to move 99.7 W259BI Lorain, OH to 99.1 Cleveland. As Ohio Media Watch stated, there doesn’t appear to be any difference with the previously rescinded. 640 WGST Atlanta has signed on its translator. 92.3 W223AF covers the north and east sides of Atlanta proper with 99 watts.
